Depth

I once found lovers of beauty shallow
(but that was before I'd any true depth)
I thought their minds were buoyant and hollow
('Twas before my mind had any weight yet)

When philosophy weighted my mind down
And Theology tossed me out to sea
The ocean of searching threatened to drown
The poems became the air that I breathed

When one has dived down past pure reason's light
And faith is the only light that one sees
'Tis then Venus' star that breaks through the night
And allows one to hope, to dream and to be.

Then one sees the world is coming to know
That truth is beauty and beauty truth shown.
