Gnosis of Sophia

She lets her black hair fall to hide her smile,
But I can still see it back there glowing,
Like a white candle set behind a veil,
With a light too bright to keep from showing.

A hidden poetry escapes her lips
Crouching behind a mis-turned, well-turned, phrase
Making secret meanings that her words give
Reveal themselves to hide again in haze.

Then she asks me to teach her what I know
To disguise the fact that she’s teaching me
Then others hear, and those others grow
Now I am the veil through which others see.

Although few know her light, she has not failed
They can all glimpse her beauty, though it is veiled
