Let's have an Argument

Let’s have an argument. Let us disagree as to what makes our culture great and what makes it less than perfect. And let us wax eloquent over the relationship between minds and bodies men and women logic and emotion sex and drugs books and knowledge dreams and God. Only let us set these three rules First, we argue passionately. Let us argue with our hearts in our hands. Let us argue with a surge in our voices. Let us argue with racing hearts Let us not acquiesce merely for the sake of decorum Next, we argue rationally. Let us bring facts to bear upon our discussion. Let us begin from well known premises. Let us back each of our propositions by filling them from the wellspring of the sages Let us not resort to mere assertions for the sake of our feelings. Finally, we argue morally. Let us each give the other, even the Devil, his due. Let us be considerate of the other’s position. Let us phrase our language such that it is to the idea Let us not speak against a person. And as such we will revel in our argument. and at the end, we may be better persons but we shall certainly not be worse.
